There are sick followers of every religion. However, only Islam was founded by one of those sickos - a bloody warmonger, a paedophile, a rapist. In my opinion, each religion should be judged by the moral standards and behaviour of its founder - not by those of its adherents. And despite the vile behaviour of a number of Catholic priests, the artistic and scientific achievements of Christianity still stand. I'm glad to live in a world where Christian belief has led to so many advancements. I have no doubt, an Islamic, pagan or atheistic world would not have achieved these. Have you ever been in the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the Dhammakaya Temple in Bangkok, the Golden Temple in Amaritsa. All outstanding buildings though I have doubts about all of their practices I may be missing something, but your reply appears utterly irrelevant. The body of artistic and scientific achievements of Christendom is far greater than the occasional vaguely impressive Moslem building (which was anyway built using centuries old Roman techniques). There's nothing Buddhist about the technology of the Dhammakaya temple, and its architecture doesn't spring from traditional Thai architecture. (I haven't been able to find out who the actual architect was.) And the Amritsar temple predates the religion that claims it.

^^^ You have admitted it, spirituality. Not exclusive to any religion and now not needed. The Rothko Chapel is a non-denominational chapel in Houston, Texas, founded by John and Dominique de Menil. The interior serves not only as a chapel, but also as a major work of modern art. On its walls are fourteen black but color hued paintings by Mark Rothko. The shape of the building, an octagon inscribed in a Greek cross, and the design of the chapel was largely influenced by the artist.
Susan J. Barnes states "The Rothko Chapel...became the world's first broadly ecumenical center, a holy place open to all religions and belonging to none. It became a center for international cultural, religious, and philosophical exchanges, for colloquia and performances. And it became a place of private prayer for individuals of all faiths

"Sinday, Moanday, Duesday, Weptsday, Tearsday, Frightday, Sadderday ... the weeks rolled on, time without end, and the Devil rolled with the punches. Usually."

A work mate was ultra religious. Lived is life by the Bible's OT as much as he could. Followed the dietary stuff, no stonings though. He had applied for redundancy and early retirement. Then he found out his wife had a brain tumour, inoperable. He's convinced god will save her. He tries to make allowance in his pension for her. The pension advisors try to persuade her otherwise. He's adamant, so they drag their feet as she hasn't long. Fortunately for his pension, she passed 2 weeks before he had to sign. It didn't alter his beliefs though. God's will. I could not be so forgiving.

One of the oddest things about Myanmar is the amount of American Christians- the place is crawling with them. Sadly, they are of the preachy variety and roam around trying to convert the locals. Quite a few schools are funded by the church here and I am informed they are best avoided from a work point of view. Personally, I take issue with the whole converting things- they should keep their faith private and not force it on the locals. Bribing them with material things in return for devotion on prayer is worth of deportation IMO. They inhabit the rung below digital pikeys.

Hawaii already completed, other islands too. Africa covered years ago. So, where else to go?

Seriously, the thing that is really starting to hack me off is the judging and do gooder attitude that they have. Commenting about the beer bottles outside the apartment. If myself and my flatmate want to sink a few beers each then we will. Keep your nose out off out business. I'd hardly call three beers each on a Friday night sinful 555. There are four non Christians - could be a lonely year for us!

One Christmas I'd gone to my eldest brother. Christmas day plan was a couple of pints at his local, and home for the dinner. Just before we went, the door bell rings. Brother opens the door and it's the JWs. So he's chatting to them, door wide open. It's bloody freezing. Jean complains from the kitchen. She thinks they've gone. Nope he invites them into his study. 30 minutes later, Jean enters the lounge, I'm watching TV. " Aren't you going to the pub?" I say "It doesn't look like it, he got them in his study." She storms into the study, turfs them out, calls him an idiot and tells him I'm waiting.

Well, if reincarnation does exist then I hope to be reincarnated as myself. Pretty satisfied with life in general. Imagine the deja vu ?! How many times would you find yourself thinking - "well that was weird". Don't really want to take sides in the reasons most wars were fought but I believe they could be split evenly three ways : religion, power, politics

Gerbils have been one of the main contributing factors in all major wars in written history.

Imagine all the crazies there, competing to be the best religion. No thanks.

The line of thought is probably like "you're a Westener, so a christian, so you should know better; the locals are heathen and can't be blamed because they're still heathen. After we managed to convert them we'll complain when they fall back to bad habits and put to fear of God in them".
