That's not a Cortina. It's a MK1 Escort. Fair enough, but the point remains valid

Expats who call their commentary pompous or pretentious are just jealous. They see these young people sharing with the world what they themselves have been living for X number of years, and doing so in a videographically compelling way, and they say these vloggers are bullshit. Yeah, I understand if what is everyday life for me got pumped up to drama, but this couple was leaving after 4 years in Thailand... Me, when I leave Myanmar, I dunno if I'll have these kids message, but it'll take a lot of patience and hard work to make a video of this length and production value It is pompous and prententious and they are not sharing with the world how they have been living for x numbers of years, they have created a fantasy version of how they have lived for x number of years which is exactly my point...and hardly jealous, Of course it takes patience and hard work to make a video of length and production valve, George Lucas had to have the same outlook with Star Wars, but that doesnt mean the death star was real Convince me there is no attempted commericalisation to this video ?

I don't know if there's any attempted commercialization of the video. If so, they're doing a shitty job at it, as I noted previously, their view count is very low, relatively speaking.

They bought the car, apparently.
It's the self-labelling as 'cinematic' that makes me smile. Like they're <duck>ing auteurs just because they figured out how to shoot narrow DOF. Off-the-scale pretentious.
Seriously, Joko - you can aspire to something better than this.

Style over content is worthless.
Besides, it's not that good. Pointless dutch tilts, bathing half the frame in bokeh, cranking up the contrast to unnatural levels, unnecessary slowmo, and gratuitous use of drone shots because you got one for christmas does not equal good cinematography.
All the gear, no ideas.

Well, they did a far better job than I could have done, but then I can barely ever turn on the video function on my digital camera. Had me gagging in places, wanted to kill the people in the video. Still trying to work out what the point of it was ? I watched it with my 3yo boy last night, until he complained so much we went back to Steve and Maggie and Peppa Pig.

They refer to it on their facebook page as 'Johnny's Escort'. Presumably they're just doing the resto for him.

It's entirely commercial. Go look at their website. "The most cinematic........" And "Help us to get 1 million youtube subscribers." That when they had 2000 subs and I think 20,000 plus three years later. The guy has a natural talent for grating on people. The girl less so, he should stick to the camera, while she should work on quality content. Your video tend to have more human interest content in them - that one with the weird bridge content a good example. You shut your mouth and allowed us to imagine we were sitting on the bike crossing that bridge. Less was way more.

We, the viewers, will decide if you are the "most cinematic." And they couldn't say - "help us to get to 5,000 subs." Then 10,000, then 20,000, it had to be a million, an unachievable, delusional figure. Mark Wiens has been at it for years in the Asia and food category and only recently has got close to 500,000 subs - an incredible performance.

Just as a matter of interest, despite what I read elsewhere about these digital pikeys making $$$ per day. What would your average pikey be making in $ terms per month?

Realistically, less than $250 a month. There will be many making less than $50. My "pikey, " income runs between $500 to $1500 a month. I haven't pubbed a book in 17 months, I can't be bothered. I have four in the works that will turn $1000 a month for a while. Truthfully, again, I can't be bothered. I make too much money from my own company. The bank manager near fainted yesterday when I delivered my cash bonus. You're like me. wages are great - even better when you don't need to touch them
