"After dueful consideration the Thai authorities have finally realized the importance of Digital Nomads for Thailand: a new type of visa will be issued soon that is especially focused on this target group. The new “non-immigrant ND visa” will allow online workers to stay in Thailand for 1 year. This move will give relief to a lot of digital earners who are currently on “fake” student visa or working illegally in Thailand. " ...... This is exactly what should happen in the minds of some so-called 'Digital Nomads' in Thailand. They think they are so important for Thailand that the Thai government ought to make an exception and create a special visa for them. Let me tell you this: it’s not going to happen. Digital Nomads, whatever your definition of the term, are no more important for Thailand than average tourists, retirees, businessmen or anyone else for that matter. Per day of stay, they don’t spend more than tourists, they don’t hire staff, they don’t develop the economy. Technological spill-overs? Give me a break, the typical Digital Nomad is a lone wolf behind a screen in a coffee shop or co-working space. www.chiangmailocator.com/112-chiang-mai-stories:digital-nomad-visa-a-virtual-reality

A great step, finally recognition !!! Can't wait for the paperwork to help officially prove how much the digital nomads contribute (in taxes) to this great country

I've met a few genuine success stories in the digital nomad community - one young English guy I know scored a big hit with his company, and sold it earlier this year. Guys like him are few and far between.
The vast majority are as you believe. Running around thinking that they are travel/photo journos, or the next Steve Jobs, living on 10,000 baht a month. I've met them too.

Tax dodgers the lot of them, they contribute NOTHING. They contribute to housing cost inflation which affects the regular working Thais. I know two that hold on to their 2,500 baht a month cells for grim death, housing now denied to Thais. And before the nomads moved in the rooms were 2,000 baht a month. The landlord ramped up the price thinking the Thais would move out and he'd fill the place with nomads. The majority of the Thais stayed, 500 baht a month poorer. Thanks for that, nomads.

This really js a thread fir Soutie, always one of his favourite topics.
I know a few "nomads" so as to speak, bug they are operating at a much higher level than a lot of the TV "Digital Pikeys" who are living in 5k a month studios, on muckwallet ed visas and feasting on mama nooden

The black pudding wasnt up to much though, wheres that twat Smokey with his BP? The last I heard he was moving Thaiguyinglasgow into my place. I think he's trying to build a wee Thai community around him. He should get my ex to come over and cook for him, she's good at that. And she's excellent at going native when she goes back to Thailand. What a shock she got when I booted her out. She ended up sitting skint at Dubai airport, begging her ex husband to bail her out. I'm pleased I have an inner bastid.

The comment relating to the increasing rent these scum have caused the locals...well its true for any country but always I feel a pinch when I realise how much those paying the 2k a month were earning.....its a large chunk of salary and a real blow for them. Meanwhile digital twat will finish his two or three years of muppetry and head home skint and work in McDonalds.

What's the name of that excellent Indian we went to blether....I might take thaiguyinglasgow there for a scoff....I know how much Thais love Indian food....and that is my inner bastid comin out too.
