I've asked at immigration how many expats live in Thailand ..... One million was the answer.
Tourism stats I don't buy either, I think they include all the visa runs when they were the thing of the day.
Anyone have a clue how many actually call Thailand home ? Even part time ?

I do something very simple with the reported numbers from any Thai government agency.
Road deaths - double it.
Tourist numbers - halve it.

Have you ever been asked by Immigration -
"Are you happy in Thailand?"

The Thai Government is just as interested in your happiness as the US,UK and every other government. I don't recall any government having a Happiness Ministry.

I did read at one time there were 440,000 foreigners living in Isaan - that was including Japanese etc - not exclusively Westerners.

Statistics!!! Lies, dammed lies , and statistics. Numbers can and are manipulated any which way but to support the agenda of whoever or whatever the topic or the target may be. In my view certainly some of the figures quoted here seem to be or actually are from the department of mathematical illusions. Puts David Copperfield to shame the results displayed by that aforementioned department. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistics

The Thai government have the figures of expats and tourists no doubt of that.
Do the Thai government ever do a household sensus? I don't think they do.
