Dude! Love the videos, a total pleasure to watch.
You should be the dictionary definition of "a free man."

In the blog that goes with this, I discuss how I felt listening to the sounds of artillery fire not too far from where I was staying at Indawgyi Lake. I move away from the bluegrass music theme...

In the blog, I wax poetically on reading Orwell's Burmese Days in the town that inspired it.. Eric is one of my favourite authors, Burmese Days could have been written in Hong Kong, Singapore or Malaysia, thats a moot point, it should be mandatory reading for any expat posted to this part of the world. I read and re read it every so many years, and always have a chuckle to myslef as I relate the characters living over here to those in the book.

I have neighbours up my way who rent cheapo condos to save the hassle of commuting each day, only ever see them on weekends.

The recent Myanmar voyage continues. This time, I have a day off in Katha. I'd never heard of Katha until I started planning this trip. It's a town on the Irriwaddy, famous for being the railroad terminus of the British-built railway and the place George Orwell was stationed when thinking up his first novel, Burmese Days. There's a blog too.

It's been a couple weeks since I've last made one of these videos, and it will be one of the last ones of the journey. Part 15. Enjoy! There's also a blog that goes with it that talks about what I've been up to lately.

The beginning of the end of the latest Burmese journey. Yes, she loved the boots. I'm happy for that because I think my passport disappeared while I was navigating the commercial labyrinth of the Pratunam district. Wanna see what she looks like? You'll have to visit my blog for that.

^^^ I wish you both happiness.
Might have to change your name from Sir Joko to Papa Joko, is that the sound of wedding bells and the patter of tiny feet I can hear?
Whats the Burmese stance on such thorny subjects as sin sot?
Only joking, but may well be worth a blog/vlog (or whatever its called) in its own right.
Cant wait to read the replies, can farangs own land in Burma, how mutt for a retirement visa etc etc.
Take care and safe travels.

Just remember Joko. No man has a right to be happy all of his life and have his own personal paradise. He has to be married at least once.

siam - I've been married, to a woman I'd been living with for 9 years before we tied the knot. A year later, we broke up. Back to April journey... Well, the loop through Chin, Sagaing, Kachin and Mandalay had come to an end a couple days ahead of schedule. Needing someplace to get out of the sweltering Mandalay hear, the hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin was the obvious choice. I'd ridden the Mandalay-POL road on previous journeys, and I remembered it as being one of the most interesting rides in all Myanmar. It's a divided highway, very wide at points, but yet twisting and turning with lots of interesting stuff to see along the way. Zach at MandalayMotorbike.com recommended I check out a road along the way which leads up to a lake and then beyond to higher mountains. This map isn't too precise in showing where the turnoff is. Look for the Aung Yadanar Hotel. It's there. Wow! What a road on which to make my last significant ride of this 2800 km journey. Unfortunately, I got turned back at a security gate near the dam. I should have just kept going. The attendant was sleeping when I passed through the gate. Enjoy the video which continues the bluegrass music theme...

Here's something a little different from me. I'm skipping the last couple months and just catching up with this last weekend. As background, I haven't had a partner for a dozen years or so. We'll see where this goes. Suffice to say there are disadvantages and advantages (some of which aren't just in the physical realm) of dating a person 20 years your junior. You should really check out the blog that goes with this video.
