Just like Thailand with their spirit houses, Myanmar has mixed a lot of old regional beliefs into its fervent Buddhism. An example of this is the reverence for the Nats. These ancient spirits are demi-gods, effecting people's lives, needing appeasing, and the heart of Nat worship is where I left in this video, Mount Popa.

My favorite of these 'saints' is 'ol Kyawmwe, the patron Nat of drunkards. Here he is as a statue... Upper right hand corner.
