Who actually decided for all of us that we should be working 5 days a week?
I'd happily do my 40 hours over 4 days and then have a 3 day weekend every week, but assholes around me have forced the 5 day, that's 5 day minimum upon me
Since we only live once, who was it that forced working 5 days upon us all?

Looxury ! We used to dream of working five days a week !
I could count the number of jobs I have had in my life that were five day weeks on one hand, and have fingers left over.
Most of them have been 6-7 days a week. Seismic work in the Great Sandy Desert was the one, I still remember doing a 70 day swing out there driving a grader, 10 hours a day min.

You only get out of life what you put into it. My first block of land in Oz, 5 acres, paid for within one stint working in the Kimberleys, about 8 months. At one stage I was paying a month's repayment on the loan every week and still had enough money left to get on the p**s every night (food and accommodation supplied on that job)
Second block of land, 10 acres, took a bit longer but I built my own house on that block so I was buying building materials every month as well.
House and land in Saraphi, outside of CM, paid for while working in the mining industry in QLD and NSW. Six and seven days a week, used to average about 65 hrs a week, three months work paid for the land, 800 sq mtrs and about five months work paid for the new house to be built.
I left my run late but I did not want to be one of those guys who worked til he was 65 and hoped he had the house paid off by then.

If Tony worked for one hour for any of those 6 days it would be a fricken miracle.

Oh a 5 day week sounds great.
Seriously, in my line of work, and my position i often have to work all 7. I do generally try to make sure when possible to get ond day away from my workplace per week, but i am pretty much on call 24 /7.
Today i did leave work early at 4pm

Worked some very strange hours in S B signing on for duty at all times of the day. 02-00 was a nice shift even if you did a 15-16 hours duty turn and as for day work 09-00 to 17-00 used to hate it .Loved shift work, great job good mates and money was good.
Mind you I still think the whole working pattern is wrong.
The time of your life when you need all the money you can get to live you're knocking your nuts off for the time of life when you've got all you want when you're older and established and then need far less money is to my mind crazy.

Honestly I don't know why Australia isn't the richest country on Earth. Apparently we work much longer hours than a lot of other countries and our wages are sky high. We should all be driving around in Rollers and smoking big cigars.

Yes but your personal income taxes and cost of living are also some of the highest in the world as well Its never of case of how much you earn, its a case of how much one spends or has to hand over to a goverment I have always enjoyed offshore, as its 7 days a week / 12 hour days ie a an 84 hour work week, but after 28 days you walk away from it The times i have spent on a 5 day week, 9 to 5, its always felt strange to me
