Far from being a hotel from hell , I saw this place on tv the other night. A 6 star resort in Oman of all places. Bet you can't get proper bacon for breakfast or pork sausage sandwich for lunch. Can't possibly be 6* if that's the case. Appears in another major hotels awesome looking restaurant, pork bacon is no problem. So on that I'll bet bacon from pigs is no issue. Let's face it , if they serve booze there , they probably serve little piggies. andyinoman.wordpress.com/tag/pork-bacon-in-muscat/

Ended up staying in one place in Soi 22 some years back, down a little alley think it was called 24/7 or something like that. What an absolute shithole, but the shower was hot and the air con worked. It's probably no longer there now with the developments.
Another funny one was some years ago , we went to Pattaya to do purchasing of kitchen equipment, as Chanthaburi was limited. Anyway, one of my staff looked on line a found a place, it was in soi 9 or something cant exactaly remember. Anyway, got out of our brand new fortuna and walked in with decent luggage. The chap looked flumoxed, and asked if we would like to see the rooms before checking in. I kid you not, the rooms were like <duck>ing hovels, the face on my then boss was priceless as she looked at me and said, "it's not like it was in the pictures". We cancelled or bookings, and booked into a nice hotel a bit further up the road.
Wordt place ever though, was a hotel i stayed in in Dhaka, that was really like a third world hell, and dodgy bangladesjis wondering the corridors scratching each others balls. Was glad to get out of there pronto

Years ago my mate from Devon (the stingiest man in the world) and I drove down to CM from CR for two days/nights to do some buying for my website, and his guesthouse. I stayed at the Top North just down from Thapae Gate, mainly because it was easy to park my car there, but my mate stayed at this place on the other side of the klong. My room was about 800 baht and his was 120. I went over and had a look at it the day we left, had a bit of a laugh. There were places where the carpet was worn right through to the concrete and the musty smell was overpowering. He was skiting about it only costing him 120 bt, and I paid 800, and I said to him I think you got ripped off !

I wonder if the security guard is still tied up in the basement?

How much do they charge to tie you up in the basement ? Regardless, give it a go smokie and get back to me, if it's worth it I will be on the first flight to BKK to try it out.

But generator noisy at night so we stop it". Reminds me of an hotel, a converted Rajah's palace in India, I stayed in many years ago. The place only had three rooms, a grand suite and two more modest ones. There was no electricity that night. I asked why, and was told they only turned it on at night if the grand suite was occupied. The thick stone walls absorbed an enormous amount of heat during the day, and the windows were too tiny to allow for any perceptible air flow. Trying to sleep in those hot, airless conditions was an impossibility. The only redeeming factor was that my car was scheduled for 3 a.m. to take me to the railway station, a few hours drive away so I could doze on the drive.

Amazing place that India, you can see the best and the worst of everything there. When I was in Jodhpur we went up to have a look at the Umaid Bhawan Palace which was at one time the biggest privately owned residence in the world. A third of is is still occupied by the family of the original owners, another third is part of the Taj Hotel Group and the rest is a museum. We didn't go inside but even from outside it is very impressive. The hotel we stayed at was tiny in comparison but luxurious all the same.
