We can't forget how damaging the civilian governments were.

The country becomes more like pre-Htin Kyaw Burma by the day. No democracy. No freedom of speech. No right to protest.

Reminds me of the referendum held in Australia years ago when under the Howard government, to do with Australia becoming a republic, or not.
The way it was worded was a con, otherwise the vote would have gone the other way.
They were too smart to just ask - "Do you want Australia to become a republic, yes or no ?"
I will never forget that smug little prick and his gaggle of henchmen, appearing on national television saying the people have spoken, that's the end of it, don't want to ever hear about it again.
Strange thing was, a lot of people like me were not even wanting Australia to split from the Commonwealth, just did not like the way the sneaky little rat went about it.

Bring back the good ol' days of protesters being murdered on the streets, women and children blown up etc. Oh, that's right, that's what caused this mess in the first place. You know, I can live my life here quite happily without even thinking about the government situation, until some clown mentions it on an internet forum. Another thing I like about this forum, the management have not allowed it to become like the other place, a Thai politics troll-fest.

No. Those things weren't the cause, they were the effect of a fundamentally flawed democratic system based upon vote buying and populist policies, backed by inordinately wealthy and corrupt politicians serving their own interests. The new constitution isn't going to fix those problems, and in a few years there'll be another coup. The junta has missed the opportunity swiftly to root out corruption and to impose draconian penalties on malfeasors to discourage future corruption. Look at the Thaksin tax situation. Farcical. One can but wonder why the junta is happy to let the family off, and why it never sees corruption in military ranks.

Well as it seems that in your eyes and opinion Thailand is such a dreadful place to live in why do you continue to stay here? There must be many other much more liberal regimes in other sovereign nations where you could live surely.

Singapore gained independence in 1959 Lee Kuan Yew then started his fight against corruption, that was 58 years ago. The system is part of the culture and it takes time for people to evolve and accept new ideas and practices. Singapore faced corruption challenges in its early years, but the progressive steps it has taken to clean up the public sector and set up an anti-corruption agency made it "one of the cleanest countries in the region and the world". www.straitstimes.com/singapore/singapore-climbs-to-7th-on-global-least-corrupt-indexThe only way such changes can happen in a short time span is by the use of draconian methods. Then those that criticise the current status quo then start to scream about oppression of rights and the peoples freedom etc. It's a classic case of, ''Be dammed if you do and be dammed if you don't.''

You can't have democracy without the rule of law. The Junta has clamped down big-style on corruption in Chiang Mai. Now we have the sight of police road blocks everywhere as they scramble to regain their losses. And then the gullible say - "But I got a receipt for my two-hundred baht fine." How effin stupid can you be - give me a day and I'll print exact copies of the police fine receipt books. If I can do it, you can be sure the Thai police know how to do it too. "Somchai, Somchai - how much did we collect today?" 85,000 baht. "Thank fork, the mia noi wants a new Iphone."

I remember going for our KR2 just after the coup. 10 baht. We didn't have 10 baht in coins. So my Mrs pays with a 20 baht note. The young lady is running round the office like an headless chicken, trying to find change. It was early, so no one was about. My wife is telling her keep it. She's panicking "can not" she's saying over and over. Took longer to get the change than get the paper.
