It’s not always smooth sailing when doing the 90-day check-in especially the day after a public holiday.

Thats a heck of a trek you did, where did you park the car? I park up in the underground carpark, thankfuly its only once a year, I do my 90 days at Lat Prao.
You are correct about the traffic, its off the scale.

You are correct about the traffic, its off the scale. What's it like doing the check-in at Lat Prao? I know there are 3 locations in Bangkok, but I've always used the Division 1 location. We normally get a parking spot just out on the road about 200-300 meters away so that hasn't been an issue. Getting there is usually a breeze as we come in via Chaiyaphruek Rd, but as it was a public holiday on Monday, the last few KM were simply off the planet.

^^^^ "its a trip man"
At least I can avoid the madness of gridlock central.
You do know, you dont have to go on the actual date, you can go + or - 7 days.

^^^ Good gawd man, get your act together, you can lie in your bed.
Send the mrs off to do your report, send the maid, a motorcyle taxi driver. Do it online, do it by post, even better, take the mrs away for a long weekend in Singapore, and reset the 90 day report when you get back. Those multi rentry permits are worth their weight in gold.
90 day reports are for mugs.

Another subject that many consider taboo, how many farangs actually have health insurance? I don't have it, but then again, I never had it in Australia either. I only went to see the doctor about once every other year and never needed to go to the hospital. Health insurance always seemed like a waste of money to me, but I do have one bank account with money put aside for a rainy day.

But if you do go to Singapore do not forget to get the House owner to report to Immigration within 24 hours of your return. Ok, I've been meaning to throw this sort of thing out to the forum here and get told off. When I arrived here, (as I've done for the last 9 years and even longer than that for the business trips), I've only ever filled out the TM6 arrival card with the address I was staying at. I would travel all around Thailand and never signed anything when staying at other hotels or villas etc. When I finally made the move here last September, I did nothing different, except that on my first 90-day check-in, I check with Chanya and her family about the TM28 (I was doing some research about the 90-day check and the TM28 thing was mentioned). This seemed to cause some confusion in the household but you know how Thai's are with "legal matters", so I filled out the TM28 in case I needed it. While at the immigration office, Pa went off to a different counter while I waited in the queue for the 90-day check. He came back with what looked like a sheet with some sort of reference to a house registration sheet for his place of residence (Pa doesn't live with us) and I wrote my name on it and signed it. The clerk went away with my passport and came back a few minutes later as there was a problem with the visa. When I came through the airport, immigration only stamped my book for the 30-day visa on arrival, but I had the full 1-year o-a visa already on another page. They seemed to inform me that this was an error and they needed to fix it. It took a few minutes but then they came back with an amended stamp in my passport which was for the full year. I didn't lose my position in the 90-day queue, so that was good. I didn't need to show the TM28, but on the first visit, I did give them that additional information sheet that asked all the social media pages and other personal information. I didn't complete the banking information part. I simply said on the sheet the last 4 digits of my account and also said that the details were private and they can contact my bank account manager if they wanted more details. The whole thing seemed to go through without a problem. Ok, so here is the thing that I have some concern about. It looks like Pa filed my address on his house registration book as his address. I am filing my 90-day report for where I currently live (which is a different part of our village) I have never seen a house registration card/book for this house. We run off to Sukhothai every few months and I never see a house registration book there either I also believe we are paying rent to the house owner, but it is a private rental without any oversight I also believe that the owner is not declaring the income. When I ask questions about this whole thing, I don't get any answers. I'm just treating this whole thing as "normal" as any Thai does. The family seem to be totally unconcerned with these "legal" matters. Should I be concerned? As far as I can see, I've done everything I can to make sure all the "legal" process has been followed. I've just completed my 5th 90-day report and I've been through 1 visa extension and no one has asked any questions.

I've just completed my 5th 90-day report and I've been through 1 visa extension and no one has asked any questions. It is a mess. I think it depends where you live. If you live in a tourist area it can be a source of revenue for them so they apply it. It can be expensive and even applies technically if you go to your friends house in another district for a couple of days. In practice if you have someone who gives your address as his it would probably not be much problem if in the same village but may be if in differnt towns. I do not know. On rare occasions, and becoming more frequent aparently, immigration do come and check where you are living. In my case an officer called me on my phone to check if I was home for a visit and spoke to my partner. He told her he had a list of 20 odd people to visit that weekend and said if it was easier she could bring the passport and a couple of photos of us in the house to a nearby service station at 4pm when he would have a few other people do the same. She said it would be better if he came and he did, a polite 5 minute visit and a couple of photos. I do not know the purpose, he mentioned to my partner that they were visiting people who lived here for a long time. In the same village in a non tourist something couold probably be done. but tourist area could give problems.
