You poor chap veritas......you make the mistake of judging us by your standard of what is acceptable behaviour.

Cheers Veritas, I've always thought there was some "truth" in the saying "genius is next to insanity". So I've been hanging out here on Big Mango for a couple of weeks - next to all these insane people - in the hope my IQ might increase a little. You could be the first to point out that my strategy might have been working Welcome to the BigMango. Cheers Fletch Insane people, you are a very polite person. I would refer to some of them as members of Mentally Disturbed Angry Little Boys Club. So beware not to become like those sufferers. All their own unhappiness they like to project on others. Its all distraction but the as there are many lonely people, who like to belong to a group, they have followers. It must be quite confronting for them, after living many years in paradise, to realise that they are only accepted because of their monies. It must be lonely at the top. Oh gawd. You're so depressed. Why are you still so depressed? You need to get this sorted out BB. It is advisable to keep all monies away from LOS, it's like a black hole for cash. Also don't get involved over there or you'll end up like me and "Veritas".

In this day and age there's no need to suffer. Go and see your Doctor, be honest, tell your Doctor you're depressed and you can get treatment for it. Anti-depressants, group therapy, exercise regimes, it can all help. I've been there with this, a few times actually, there's no shame in it.

You poor chap veritas......you make the mistake of judging us by your standard of what is acceptable behaviour. His standard is being taken for loads, and now stuck back in Europe, wallowing in self pity. Anyone he sees as living in Thailand , with maybe a degree of success, angers him. im with MJP on this

So Fletch has just spent another morning in immigration. Not too much to moan about really - rather surprised. Mainly a waste of my time, when I could be doing more entertaining stuff like reading xxx and yyy posting on here - yes that puts immigration in perspective [Edited: Names removed so as not to take the p**s out of xxx and yyy too much, and keep people on their toes] Last month they approved my visa extension for a whole month more, with a stamp that said: "APPLICATION OF STAY IS UNDER CONSIDERATION APPLICANT MUST CONTACT IN PERSON AGAIN ON..." All in BIG CAPITAL letters like they were shouting at me. I may be old but I'm not deaf. Anyway I arrived 8.40 this morning just after opening, so missed the long snaking queue outside and the Isaan tea lady commander, as most people had been allocated their numbers and gone inside. Less stressful. Sat there for over an hour and half, as you do, wondering what happened to my passport and application as I ticket no.3. in the queue. Besides they've had it a month "under consideration". Shouldn't they have already done all that stuff, and simply give it back saying yes or no? T.I.T 90 mins later done. So I went to apply for my "re-entry permit". Yes, another copy of my passport, TM card, (exactly the same as before and I haven't aged at all) and the new shining stamp, so they can check everything again. Obviously all the same checks and things as earlier because it took 90 mins again. This confirms 1) They had done nothing all month but watch lakorns 2) the same mindless checks are done at least twice - totally ignoring anything else Anyway I'm now allowed mutliple shots instead of a single shot - better vfm. One shot was 1,000 and multiple shots 3,800, so I thought what the hell you only live a few times. For anyone not aware, "re-entry" is essential. If you don't go for re-entry, you have to go back to square one next time and start all the foreplay again. So a bored but relieved Fletch this morning. Feel much better for having got that off my chest and moaned here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- So: Any further suggestions on what "Amazing Thailand" should really be? Last time Mr.Toad came up with "Amazing Kwailand"? Think the Kwailand fits well We just need a new adjective instead of "amazing"...

You could be right Thaddy, although I think we have a few members that went insane then started laughing to themselves

I always get a laugh when on the skytrain heading out to Chatuchak, the next station is saphan kwai, buffalo bridge, the locals must think I am mad as I smirk to myself.

Talking about the perils of Immigration. A friend of mine had his retirement extension rejected last week, not because he didn't have enough money, he actually has more than ten times the required amount and it has been in a Thai bank for years. He forgot to copy one page of his bank book. Wasn't given any chance to fix the issue, they stamped him in for seven days, told him to leave the country and then start the whole process all over again. So just think yourself lucky young Fletch.

(Please call me Thad or Thaddy, everyone who first encountered me on various forums, still call me that in real life)
The office that we boonie dwellers use was closed down about six years ago, no explanation was given, but I'm sure you can imagine what rumours abounded.
So our closest office then was Khorat (Nakon Ratchasima) that is a 400km round-trip, which makes for a very long day, it could make for two very long days, and did for some.
I was already getting back to civilisation at least once a year for a small break anyway, so I have been combining the two.
The local office opened up again about four years ago, so I was going there for the 90 day report thing. Everything had been fine until the last few months.
I went about ten weeks ago, put my passport down and the conversation went something like this.
''ah, sir, rules have changed, you need to go to the office that gave you the extension''
''yes, I heard that, but a Thai friend of mine called this office last week and was told that if you get a yellow house book, then it's ok''
''yes, that's right, get a yellow house book and you can report here''
''I've already got one, it's in the car, would you like to see it?''
Five minutes later I was out of there with my next report slip stapled in my passport.
Another friend of mine went earlier this week only to be told that the rules have changed again and now the yellow house book means nothing to them.
In two weeks I am going to try the 90 day on-line reporting system, and dreading it.

We pass there every day week days as Cheekysmile drives me to work: Saphan Kwai (buffalo bridge), Din Daeng (red earth), Kampheng Phet (Diamond Wall), all signs next to each other on the road. All strange and meaningless, but buffalo bridge is our favourite.

I was going to try the online 90 day report a couple of weeks ago, but chickened out. The Chiang Mai Immigration office is only 10-15 minutes away, so I decided to do it the old way. I arrived just before 1pm, and was growled at by a female (I think) officer who has a good case if she were to try suing the charm school. Anyway, it was she that I had to see... suddenly she was all smiles as the paperwork was correct. Passport stamped and out of the place in record time. I reckon that the online system will take longer to get a result, and anyway, I'd miss going to see that little ray of sunshine. I've got to renew my retirement extension in July: I hope they don't start farting around with the rules before then. I tried the 90 days online, but it didn't work as I was too late. Make sure you start trying about 10+ days or so before. It has to be a certain number of days beforehand otherwise it won't do. Sorry can't remember the number tho'.

Failing that, send the maid or some Somchai m/c taxi driver to do it for you.
