I have enjoyed many pleasant flights on U.S. airlines. I am a happy camper, and that goes a long ways, on airplanes or off. When people treat airline staff like servants, they get what they deserve. Treating people like servants is something i never do, never have, never will...the old saying "treat people they way you expect to be treated goes a long way" How ever if some cops an attitude with me, they will get the same back

When you let them play you like a fiddle, you only diminish yourself. Part of being an adult is getting beyond the mentality of a school playground.

I have found my experience of flying with US carriers to be pretty unpleasant. AA and United absolutely suck, I would go as far to say that the AA flight i took from Chicago to London a couple of years back was the worst flying experience I have had, after Biman Bangladesh.
I did a AirSouthWestern hope from LA ro SF which was actually pretty good, as well as a Jet Blue Hope from NY to West Palm Beach, again not to bad.

AA and United absolutely suck, I would go as far to say that the AA flight i took from Chicago to London a couple of years back was the worst flying experience I have had, after Biman Bangladesh. I did a AirSouthWestern hope from LA ro SF which was actually pretty good, as well as a Jet Blue Hope from NY to West Palm Beach, again not to bad. You probably had the best seat in the house...those who do not fly on the wings have to put up with the flight attendants.

I know over booking is common, and I don't know if they offered a bribe for people to volunteer. They did. Initially $400, then $800, plus a night in an hotel, according to The Economist (which two people accepted). The airline's mistake was not to increase the offer further. Greta at MSNBC revealed that some time ago an association of airlines decided to pass a self-serving rule that caps the compensation at a certain multiple of the underlying fare. Thus United "couldn't" increase the offer above the max that was reached. How fuucking convenient. Corporation greed and handwashing at its worst. "Gosh, we're sorry. We were bound by this new rule that WE ourselves created."

"For those in transit ask at the information desk." Me at information desk. "Excuse me, I've just arrived from Manchester in transit to Bangkok.and the captain said to ask for directions." The Fraulein snatches my ticket, a quick look and throws on the counter. "Wrong terminal!" and turns away. As I turned round there was a young woman who had flown in on my flight. "I'm not asking, what do we do, I'm also going to Thailand." So I looked around and in the corner of the room was an arrow to the terminal. I saw her on the flight, and she was scared to ask the crew for anything. The crew were surly. Return flight was crap too. Lufthansa are on my no fly list.

^ Frankly, if that fellow was truly selected by random, it would have made sense to "reselect" someone else at random, to avoid opening themselves up to exactly this accusation. Imagine if it was a black person. It doesn't even matter anymore if it was a random selection. The imagery would damn United in public opinion anyway. Sounds weird, but if they were going to do this idiotic, barbaric thing, they should have "randomly selected" someone white.
That said, they deserve to lose all the business that their large China market can deprive them of.
And the CEO shamelessly trotting out the euphemism "re-accommodated" in his statement takes the cake. Even in what would have otherwise been a decent response, he could not help revealing himself as an insensitive a$$hole.
