Funny you mention that...seen multiple comments on some news sources suggesting drilling a hole... the Chilean boys were trapped 69 days and the hole drilled to rescue them was 700m deep and this was carried out by miners on a mine property...doing this in the jungle at the top of mountain with unknown geology a whole new ball game

Sure, i did my Proto-team training for the deep levels mining racket, and it was the scariest safety training i have ever done, and being trapped underground is part of that training, and its simulated for "real" fking horrible... .everyone makes a big deal about offshore O&G training, escaping overturned helicopters etc...but honestly the BOSIET training was/is a piece of p**s compared to brutal training we went though for deep levels mining years ago..it scared me shitless...no joke

To keep your fear in check and avoid scaring others makes a man. IMHO.

They used to get really upset with me ringing the alarm at 03:00am offshore and calling a muster, when its planned its fking easy...when its not and at worst possible time in the 24 hour cycle is a real test of how good your emergency prepareness is They usec to get upset with me hurling the dummy over the side and not telling anyone and howling man over board...let see how quick you fkers are when its not planned

First of all, after 10 days missing, I was happily surprised to learn these boys had been found. After that amount of time, I'd assumed, like you did, that the situation was hopeless.
Now, the world's eye turns to the effectiveness and abilities of the Thai gov't to get these boys out. I'd say that both the former and the latter are a popular topic of derision amongst ex-pats here on this forum and elsewhere.
Deriding the authorities for their corruption, inefficiencese and overall ineptitude is mildly humorous when talking about immigration, traffic or even national policy issues. Now, there are lives on the line. Thailand is in the spotlight. Their reputation is on the line. Can they do as well as Chile?

Days later Mr X has been moved to an admin post, effin backsliding pricks, quite happy to take the money and sit on their ass and do nothing, when the shit hits the fan they were offski like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Was sat in some so called managers office one day, he asked me to close the door for fear of his boss (next door) hearing the conversation, I told him, there is nothing I will say to you I will not repeat next door.

We had an emergecy practice at work, a chemical manufacturer. So i'm told to go drape myself over some pipes on the top floor of the plant. Rescue team walked past 3 times. After a long wait, my boss comes onto the floor. "Mosha they surrender, where are you?"

They've just said oxygen levels are down to 15% Shit thats not good... It's not that bad. 15% is equivalent to being at an altitude of 2,500 metres - somewhere like Aspen, Colorado. Of course, if it falls further ...
