A wonderful accolade being as I was born out of wedlock. At least I don't have to work at like the poster above me has to. Seems to have done a reasonable job of of it though.

The situation is the same, I see no point in uttering overused platitudes concerning tourists or others.
Note the action of the Indonesian authorities. That shows their levels of concern, ask them what sympathy they may have concerning those who have suffered, they are but figures and possibly names on a report.
Sad to say the dead in the incident above will soon be forgotten as will those who were part of a family, they will leave lingering but fading memories to some people but as time vanishes so will those memories.
Those whose desk is left empty will be replaced. '' Here you are Mr. Jones, this was whatsits names desk, he went on holiday but never came back, pick up where he left off, you'll soon settle in as part of our team.
Ask those involved in health and accident attending personnel how they remember those lost under their care. Can't afford sentiment attend to the living they are the important ones.

From the footage it appeared many knew it was coming....always going to be some who don't know or are out of reach when the warning is sounded sadly.

I can remember several who died under my care SirPolee....not all of course yet each one is significant....more so than the many who pass through over the years without incident. And no I am not and have never been sued for negligence before any of you wags jump on my head.

Heat a big knife over a fire till it glows red, douse it a bit by running whiskey along the blade and press on the wound. Better put a piece of wood between your teeth before you bite your tongue. Disclaimer: don't try this at home kids

The truth is smokie you are in a profession that deals with or tries to divert death. Yes of course some are remembered for reasons that are pertinent to the situation that is normal, you have very close personal contact with them... I still recall the memory of being with a dying man and the conversation we had which eased his fear of dying alone. Not an easy task but it was to be done. Of course there were and still are emotions and memories involved but as time passes the impact lessens. The personal physical contact brings home ones feelings, news footage video clips are clinical, yet ones emotions are stirred platitudes spring to mind but they soon vanish. , it is part of life but it cannot be allowed to run our lives, emotions die, we live on. Do people have memories and sympathy concerning what their bacon, chicken, beef etc was before it ended up on their plate and how it got their? I think not.

BBC reporter this morning said that although Indonesia has a tsunami warning system in place. Much of it is out of order as they can't afford to maintain it. Given that the the fault that triggered the 2004 tsunami only released half it's tension. One would hope the sytem on that side is working. That fault hhas a history of double taps about 15 to 20 years apart.
