Someone needs to enlighten me on this, whats the big hoo haa over these letters ?...as i see in addtion to the British going mental over this, the colonial cousins are also making similar comments over the possibility of the US embassy doing the same Surely for ones retirement visa one has to should show proof of either 800K in the bank or bank statements / transfers totalling 65k/m coming in ? Surely BE wasnt issuing letters to people on someones say so without proof of said money in ?...ie BE was helping people blag their visas ? Please correct my understanding of all this I may be wrong, but I think the Thais are asking the BE to guarantee the income meets the required standard. That is provide the conversion to Baht. The BE has always refused that. They will confirm the GBP amount. I always sent two pension slips. Ranong wants to see those slips too. Don't Yanks have to sign an affadavit? |

Its mostly just an excuse to harass a few Baht for the officials I think in the end.
The loan schemes will continue it seems so not really any change for those in this rather precarious situation.

From January 2019 the British and Canadian embassies will no longer be issuing the pension visa letters. No doubt the other western countries will follow suit hopefully. This will as I take it mean if you don't have the 800k in your bank account, or the 65k monthly income , you'll be getting the ass out of Thailand! Deported promptly. No more 'borrowing' and the putting back the cash. All the pensioners must be shitting themselves! Thoughts...... Well it has been a week since the gobshite first erupted and the sky has not yet fallen in, neither has there been any mass evacuation from Swampy. The only mention of how the likes of us are a drain on the system is unpaid hospital bills. A deplorable practice I agree but hardly happening in enough numbers to undermine the economy. smokie feels that there is no reason for anyone to be unable to have a spare THB800k kicking about. I agree that there are many here on a financial knife-edge but there would be anyway whatever rules are put in place, and that requirement well apply to Monte, but Thailand?? I know several people who are sweating at the ATM every 4 weeks, would not be a lifestyle that suited me. If the schadenfreude shitbag got excited over the 1,000 detained at Phuket, he will have calmed down a bit when he read that it was from 1/10 to 14/10, included 583 on overstay and 880 entered illegally, so sadly probably not too many Brits. Must check those figures. |

Must check those figures. I did not say there is no reason. In Thailand a myriad of reasons as we all know. I simply agree with the Thai authorities that 800k as a yearly sum is about right to safely exist in Thailand. I'm not saying it should be a budget either....if it all goes wrong then having that will go in most cases to putting it right. |

I never understand why members of TVF get their knickers in a twist of things when they don't have all the needed info. Wait until the New Year when people report back there efforts.

I have wondered about this for awhile is it not possible for the wife to get a loan for 90 days? Or condo owners, will the banks lend to farangs with adequate security? Or does the bureaucracy involved mean it is easier just to use an agent? |
