There are ''organisations'' who, for a fee will breathe life into your personal fiscal system until such time when it can or has supported your current lifestyle.
This is a limited time cure and if ones fiscal health is poor such treatment may well be needed or even administered on a yearly basis.

Not the 10% a month merchants? There are a few empty properties locally due to this funding. Short-term thinking or desperation or a bit of both?

My knowledge is obviously incomplete. The 10% lenders are the "first line", I now hear of one female locally who lends at 20% per month. And uses the police for collection/enforcement. Presumably they go to her when they are up to their limit with the first line.
I think it was rgs who recently mentioned 50% lenders, I thought that was a joke. Not so sure now.
What a life some people lead here.

What a life some people lead here. Your local mom n pop shop is the nerve centre for all that happens. 50% is true, borrow 2,000 baht, pay it back at 100 baht per day for 30 days. Ref your 20%, theres an old effin witch up my way (แม่มด) who wanted to borrow 1 million baht from me at 10% per month, she was going to lend it out at 20% per month, I declined her offer. Body language, watch who wais who and in what order, also note the type of wais offered, the effin money lenders up my way walk around as if butter wouldnt melt in their mouths, fine upstanding pillars of the community, . Ref police, sorry cant coment about up your way, are you sure she isnt just a franchise holder/front for the local police? I am well aware how the locals love to bullshit (ตอแหล) about their position on the local pecking order, trying to big themselves up. Also be aware, some of these loans can be sold on. This last week, woman borrowed 50k baht at 10% for the month, end of month comes, no payment, next months interest (ดอกเบี้ย, usually shortened to ดอก) will be 20%. Yesterday borrowed 100k baht for 15 days, 5%. Last week, came to the house wanting to borrow 30k to go upcountry to do the rice harvest, payment dependant on the rice harvest, offer declined.

Really what a shower of unprincipled thieving kernts. They put unpayable lifelong debts onto their neighbours and friends.
I am beginning to agree with the tvf wallahs that this place stinks.

A long term Thai visitor told me years ago. "The longer you stay here, the more you will come to hate everything about this country that you once loved" He, his (Thai)mrs and kid, have no intention of ever coming back here, last e-mail I had from him was, see you in Paphos on the Brandy Sours and Keos.

Situations all easily avoidable of course.
When I lived in London I could spend all evening in the pub while my laundry was being done and pressed...pop to the off licence for some beers and groceries an smokes then grab a fish supper on the way home without putting my hand in my pocket at all.
Of course I would wander round all of the said establishments on a Friday and make sure bills were settled...yet some would have tick for weeks on end infinitum.

In South Africa I.have seen it frequently where someone goes to the bar owner saying look I have had no work for a few months can I run a tab. No problem comes the reply. A few months later both sides slowly realise there is no incentive - or ability to settle. The bar loses the customer and the tab. It happens here too. The bin grows and the punter disappears. Never did understand people only paying weekly or when they felt like it.

I can only comment from my own experience, the guy that is drinking for free is no problem, IF he is bringing 4, 5 or 6 others with him, the profit I make from the others more than covers my expenses. At my local mon n pop shop I have a "Yorkshire slate" I sometime stop off after being on the bike or for a walk and have a drink or whatever, sometime the mrs will pop in and get some supplies. Sign on the enterance, cash only, no credit. I was waiting in line, the shopkeeper pulled out her notebook and did a subtraction, to tell me how much I had remaining in credit. I pay her 1,000 baht upfront, and each time she just deducts what I have spent to give me a running total. Some gobshyte asked her why the farang could get credit and she couldnt, answer the farang doesnt have credit, he pays in advance, do you want to do the same? Stunned silence, เงียบ, from effin gobshyte.
