Well I went to Ranong immigration to see what I need to do. Visa runs out Nov 11. The boss told me I have to leave the country by September 26th, because I couldn't do border hops, my visa is invalid. So I can't extend it. Suvannakhet here I come. What am I missing here? You've been here for a long time, aren't you on a marriage visa (presumably O), if so, why cannot the visa be extended? I'm on a Non Imm type O based on marriage. I'm below the 40k month, that's why I went to Savannakhet. They don't have a monetary limit. But since March I haven't done a border hop. UbonJoe over in TVF says I should be able to get a 60 day extension based on my last entry though. So Sopha says she'll give them a call tomorrow.

I've just read in the BK Post that a Deputy Gov. of the BOT has said he doesn't believe gov. will open up for tourists until 2021 and even then only on a limited basis, he thinks normal service will not be resumed until 2022. If correct and I do agree that he's right, that means that leaving Thailand this year will make it very difficult to return, this year.
I know that's not much use to you Steve but it perhaps reinforces the difficulty of what you're up against. Some suggestions, most of which I suspect you will have already tried, but....: a different agent; a combination of money in bank and monthly income; borrowing; backhander? Another off the wall idea.....our Chinese neighbours maid is Burmese and she's been back and forth to Myanmar twice since the covid crisis began, she seems to use a paid for service which is mostly just a smuggling route where she rides across the border in a truck at some quiet location, with the kind assistance of immi. folk, if she can do it....! I can ask questions/find details if you like?

The Burmese are on a different scheme than we are I think. I'd still need to get my passport stamped. I hear up in Mae Sot foreigners going to the border are asked shopping or visa run. If shopping they get a temporary app and leave theirs on the Thai side. If it's a visa run then they just get stamped in and out, hand over 500 Baht and go back to their place of stay. No record of being in Myanmar.

OK another idea. We are on the verge of selling some land. Now given that the money for visa must be an international deposit for a visa. Can my wife transfer 400k + to my family's bank, and have them send it back to me? If so what's the cheapest way, pay charges here or in the UK?

I'm not 100% current on this topic but it seems that Transferwise has the best exchange rate whilst their transfer fees can be high for smaller amounts - you can't use Transferwise for the Thailand to UK leg. By comparison, HSBC UK charges only 4 Pounds for the international transfer whilst the receiving bank (any Thai bank) will use the banks TT rate which is usually excellent, plus a 500 baht receiving fee. You have to look at three components of the cost, the exchange rate, the transfer fee and the receiving fee. Me, I use the HSBC route. Outbound money to the UK, maybe look into Dee Money, a Thai outfit with cheap charges, there should be no UK receiving charges.

Well spotted, I'm pretty sure funds for the extension (aka renewal) of common or garden variety visas do not need to come from overseas, mine have never been checked for that reason.

I thought it was only funds to purchase a condo that had to come from abroad, as a commoner, mine have never been checked. I dont know if I could even provide prove now that HSBC is no longer here.

Marriage is 2 months I think. But once it's in it's staying for at least 2 years. I've about 20 months until my state pension, which added to my company pension gets me comfortably over the 40k per month.
