Sweden to expel (up to) 80,000 failed asylum-seekersSweden expects to expel up to 80,000 asylum-seekers whose applications have been rejected, the country's interior minister has announced.Anders Ygeman said that charter aircraft would be used to deport the migrants over several years. "We are talking about 60,000 people but the number could climb to 80,000," Mr Ygeman told Swedish media. Some 163,000 migrants applied for asylum in Sweden in 2015, the highest per capita number in Europe. Of the approximately 58,800 cases processed last year, 55% were accepted. source:- www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-35425735I found it an interesting news item because it goes beyond the headline statement. .

Som nam na -
Sweden thought it was a humanitarian superpower - seriously, that's how it described itself.
It's stupid liberal policies brought in this giant wave of refugees - refugees that refused to settle in any other European country they went through in transit as they knew Sweden was the pot at the end of the rainbow.

According to the article "charter aircraft would be used to deport the migrants over several years". So there's the high cost of deporting them, plus the cost of supporting them for years before they leave.
And how many are just going to disappear into the woodwork in the interim, as has happened in the UK?
A bullet through the skull would be cheaper and more effective a deterrent for would be economic migrants. Charge them for the bullet, too.

Sort of a follow up to the OP. I found this fact interesting ... Why has Sweden got more boys than girls?
There is something odd going on with the ratio between boys and girls in Sweden. The latest estimates suggest there are 123 boys for every 100 girls among 16 and 17-year-olds. That's an even greater imbalance than in the same age group in China.
(re asylum seekers) 92% of unaccompanied minors aged 16 and 17 years old are male. So why is this?
"If you're underage, first of all, you get housing, you get more financial resources. You also have a lot of staff around you helping you with different issues," says Hanif Bali, a member of the opposition Moderate Party in the Swedish parliament - which is on the centre right of the political spectrum. "If you need food, clothing, everything, you can go to the municipality and demand this money."
But there is another even bigger benefit, which Bali believes is significant. "You have the right to family reunification. So you can bring all of your family to Sweden, if you are underage."
So there are huge incentives for getting to Sweden before you turn 18. This might explain why many young people make the journey at this point in their lives. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/18402/production/_88003399_asylum_sweeden_624.pngBBCNow, who was saying that the asylum seekers weren't host country shopping?

Asylum seekers from Albania ? "Dutch reach deal to deport Albanians more quickly The Netherlands has reached a deal with the Albanian authorities to deport illegal Albanian immigrants in large groups by specially chartered planes, broadcaster Nos says on Friday. ... Immigration minister Klaas Dijkhoff told parliament Albania is considered a safe country, which means its nationals can be deported more quickly." www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2016/01/84211-2/

by specially chartered planes, broadcaster Nos says on Friday. I rather like the idea of special planes. Preferably ones where the undercarriage opens and dumps the unwanted economic migrants into the sea from a great height. Let them swim home.

Seems it would save a bunch of money and headaches if they stopped immigration till they figured out how to deal with it. Has anyone suggested that?

They tried that, but that doesn't stop those migrating. Keep in mind that some brave the seas on leaky tubs just to get to the 'promised' land. Leaving them at point of entry like Greece or Italy doesn't help much either.

Nowadays things are a little bit more complicated. For one the 'refugees' are not allowed to work. That would be illegal. Trying to keep them at point of entry is difficult unless you turn the camps into something resembling a prison camp. That's again somewhat against modern day acceptable treatment for refugees. Without strict guarding refugees will start to move again. Some end up in Calais, some in Denmark looking at that wonderful bridge to Sweden. The Romans had it easy. They'd just massacre most and sell the rest into slavery. No UN in those days, no 'world opinion'.
