Again it depends on what package deal you are on.
Technically I am a local hire as I have PR and they tried to screw me years ago by hiring me as such, no thanks told them I'd walk. Apologies ensued, the person in HR was fired and I got my expat deal along with the other guy they tried to screw over. Education is a business, never forget that.

^^^,  , please excuse me while I pick myslef up off the floor. Over elsewhere there is some poor deluded soul telling stories about how he earns 100,000 baht per month in the ME. Sorry  , if you were a proper teacher on a proper contract, you would be earning at least 4 times that amount. Bless them. Why would anyone go to The ME for 2k a month? I have no idea, but I suspect its better than 500 quid a month up in hillbilly land. |

@ all the people whining about people boasting about income who then go on to boast about their income in the same sentence. Its irresistable. Its mandatory, it p**ses them off how the other half live, you know the ones with proper skills, qualificatons, knowledge and experience. The ones who get headhunted and move onto places like Syndey or Hong Kong or Singapore. I was offered Canada recently, turned it down, its too bloody cold. |

I'm not knocking anyone who puts in the hard work, has good chances and is prepared to go the extra mile but in education, you need to have the bits of paper and experience or the top jobs are always out of reach. That's just the way life is.
No brag about salary but never undersell yourself. I don't. Always know your worth in the scheme of things in business, doesn't mean you've got a big head either. There's a guy on Ajarn who shall remain nameless who is in Saudi racking it in. Asked me for leads in HK as he's had enough of Saudi. Management material. Now that guy is on my level qual wise and blows any of those other stuck up twats out of the water, he never brags, tells it like it is and is modest about it. We used to have a mutual snicker at some of the overblown egos on there. He used to cop heaps about being trapped in 'the sandbox'. Brushed it off like a grain of sand.
2k in the M.E no thanks. Good packages there start at around 10k tax free with bennies.

Education is a business, but there are a lot of good not for profit schools out there. By the way, why does it say Crazy Man under my name? Blah, blah... all talk and no action many people. Hard to get a full-time teaching gig in Canada.. ask anyone that lives there just coming out of teacher's college. For me, I'm working my way up the ladder..great pay, IB school, tutoring gigs, and doing my MEd. as well. I've been overseas for many years now (11 years). |
