I'm still a member over there but rarely post these days, although I did receive some good advice a while back regarding acupuncture in Chiang Mai. Some of the posters who are usually screaming about people being sex-maniacs, pedophiles, drug addicts etc. are surprisingly helpful when they want to be. Funniest thing is trying to work out who is who on TD, seems to be full of multi-nics. i would agree with this entirely. AF, and other forums, for that matter, are the same. kinda reflects the life and temperament of expats...mostly nice, dashes of irrational anger (disassociated from the longing to connect) and often humorous. the internet is filled wit this stuff too. though i don't like the personal bullying aspect. i would reserve space for troyble makers getting theirs, aka trolls who get sussed out and then get their due. but mostly, the internet can be a haven for bullies. ive gotten good advice on TD some years back when i had drama with my son's mother, regarding laws and whatnot. ive gotten good advice on teaching, etc. like you, i would guess many people who post would say something similar....both good and bad exist together. yin an wank. or something. |

I used to regularly respond on TVF with pertinent and sometimes excellent advice to posters queries but after numerous run ins with their forum nazis who show no appreciation whatsoever of the effort we all put in to the place I simply stopped as have many others.
Its a ghost town for anyone looking for help now.
Here help is given usually by PM or other methods of social media rather than posting replies openly on the board.
Many here simply don't want to share their top tips with the lurkers I guess which I totally understand.

Last time I asked for advice on something on the Chiang Mai forum over at TVF I was attacked by about three or four trolls, was like they were hovering over the forum waiting for someone to post so they could have some fun.
I never bothered again after that. Waste of time.

I never bothered again after that. Waste of time. Same same me, just gave up in the end, couldnt be doing with it all. Most of the comments were from people who dont even live in Thailand, but seem to spend every living moment wishing they were. I soon sussed them out for what they were, losers living pathetic little lives in some deadbeat job, Billy no Mates types. Woe betide you if you mention places their BG girlfriend darent take them to, there is more to Bkk than the Lower Suk enclave. One mug I encountered used to come to Bkk and spend 3 weeks sat by the swimming pool in On Nut with his rented wife, sometimes he made it as far as 7 to stock up on more Chang, thats what his holiday consisted of, guzzling Chang poolside for 3 weeks. Living the dream. Dont even get me started on the food court aficionados. |

I'm against the idea forum members who don't live in Thailand are somehow inferior or have nothing to add to a forum.
I lived there 7 years, beautiful landscape and cute girls. What else?
Costa Rica is at least a beautiful, more species of flora and fauna than you could imagine and people aren't eating them. Real cute girls, nice-sounding-easy-to-learn language. And they're Christians. They might lie and steal some but they'll never believe it's alright.
I still can't believe someone in a high place who would want this forum to do well would ever pick person like you to represent it. You are counter productive. A mod makes things better not worse.

Well if you're an old retiree you shouldn't be posting. And if you have to OP the title should look something like this: NAME A CITY YOU LIKE, NOT ANY CITY, ONE WITH PREDOMINATELY YOUNG WHITE PEOPLE WHO SEEM OLDER AND MAKE SENSE .. TO ME. ISRAELIS WELCOME. NOW, WHO'S FIRST? |

Tax benefits, cost of living, ease of travel to Australia, not to mention investment opportunities, job opportunities. You are counter productive
For me to be counter productive would imply counter productive to something, what would that be an ideal, aim or goal? A mod makes things better not worse.
