I find the more Thai than the Thais posts most amusing especially when they slate me for not eating Thai food for every meal. Great to see them expose themselves as living in their 250k Baht shack 70 miles from the nearest 7/11. I just laugh as I take the lift down to the pool or walk around the corner to Kuppadeli for my breakfast. Its a bummer isnt it, what will I have tonight, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indian, Italian or Mexican. Nah screw that dont need none of that foreign muck, will just have a plain old steak chips and beans, with a couple of runny eggs. Meanwhile upcountry in some one buffalo town Living the Dream throws another frozen meat pie in the microwave and tries to convince himself this is what spending the last forty years driving a corpy bus was all about. Teelak ja, you want ja, aloi mak. Jeez whats this stupid backward woman doing, doesnt she know he cant eat that crap, why cant these people eat proper food. Never mind off to the internet to order more meat pies, if only he could get proper spuds up here and not this frozen chip rubbish. Lads back in blighty would be green with envy if they could see me now, what do they have I aint got. Married to a hottie, the baggage that comes with her is nothing more than an inconvience, sure beats being married to some Blue Rinse and shuffling down to the Legion for a pint of an evening. Aye on reflection, life in the back end off nowhere aint so bad after all. See for me whenever I listen to a guy go on about the glory and wonder of living in Thailand i automatically think: It's wondrous compared to what, living with your aunt Molly in a closet-sized flat two floors above a Bingo parlor? And then I think, is this his first venture away from home (Poo comes to mind). Believe me, there are lots of better places, depends on your priorities, logically. Here are mine for the Kingdom along with a rating 1-10: Food .. 7 Climate .. 2 Language .. 1 CoL .. 7 Girls looks .. 9 Girls brains .. 2 Freedom from police harassment .. 5 Corruption .. 1 Workplace .. 3 General civil/political stability .. 2 Infrastructure .. 3 Procurement of drugs .. 10 |

But really lets do a poll, the entire Kingdom, what's that, 90% Isaanese-turn-your-daughter-out-types and 16 million Bkkers of which 2% are hisos?

Who am I to rate someone's intelligence. Damn if 15 YO uneducated Isaan girls can control an educated middle age man with a huge bank roll has merit.

Uni: I could have saved 15000 bucks and learned (I hate the word, lernt) what uni taught me with Google. But it's not the same. The social life, being evolved with other students in academic chores, rubbing shoulders with profs who are world-famous, a 12-storey library, discipline for study, kodos for getting it right are all priceless. Plus grads are a fraternity. If you want to work with educated folks you'll need credentials.
Flaunting your education vs. flaunting your financial portfolio .. which has more substance? I'd rather be Carl Sagan than Donald Trump any day.

...fortunately, those aren't the only two options nor a particularly apt comparison for local readers...how about a tefler with an MA at a local uni (on 35K a month) vs a retiree with a healthy pension income (say 200K a month)?...I know which one I'd rather be...

Swear to God on my mother's yet to be paid for grave, I was in a boy show years back. It was called Boylesque (lady's night and a female strip club). Got raided and shut down, classy venue. My costume was a pair of red briefs with a carrot sewed on it in front, went under and came out the back in green carrot stocks. Too bad you weren't there to tip me, Thom Thumb.
