I believe that ProfessorFart once spent 6 months undercover in a grindhouse in Soi LadyBoySpunk, Chiang Mai. For the whole operation, so as not to break cover, he wore a Chang wifebeater, ate MaMa Noodnes washed down with Archa and his only contact with the outside world was through the free wifi that he got by sitting outside of Starbucks. If you ask him nicely he will tell you all about how great his fellow Digital Pikeys and room mates were. His dedication to uncovering the scum TV ring of CM knew no bounds in thise days. It is runoured Heavy Drinker was born during that harrowing spell...but who knows? Fart is an elusive and dangerous character who shifts from shadowy bar to cheap doss house leaving women pining in his wake.

Wilcannia. Only stayed in the town to fill up petrol. Main street the shop Windows are all boarded up to stop the local dark youths from smashing the Windows - again. Black pub and a white pub.
But my favorite bit is this, They fall asleep in the middle of the road drunk so the story goes if you run one over, don't stop, just go to the cop shop and sort it out and then they'll send you on your way!
You might be thinking noooo way, he's made that last bit up. I'm serious.

You reminded me hippity....in High Wycombe they used to board up all the post boxes cos the locals would set fire to them otherwise.
There were two burger vans in the middle of town and I can confirm they were both selling greasy shitty burgers.
Greasy shitty double cheeseburgers with raw onion....dripping down my chin at 130am......drooling.....where was I?
No it wasn't bad...not bad at all....

Barrow-in-Furness, a town populated by inbred morons who considered Ulverston a foreign country, and who had pictures on the mantlepiece of Great Uncle Albert who, being intrepid to heroic proportions, once visited London. Woa, small world, I would add Dalton in Furness, alas I taught there.

^^^ Hated the place and Barrow. Ex and sons still live in Ulverston, but did not like that place much either. House was in a village close to Ulverston. I was an off comer and rejected by all the locals. It was hell.

Oh lord do I know of these places. When I was growing up Balsall Heath was known as the red light district. Moseley Village did not fare much better, in fact Jasper Carrot once famously said "If all the dolly chicks in Moseley Village were laid end to end, no one would be in the least bit surprised".

In fact in the early 90s the Birmingham City council had to shut off 'Cheddar Road' (Balsall Heath) and make it a cul-de-sac, as it was the kerb crawling center of Birmingham. Then the police set up shop and nicked any none residents who were driving into the cul-de-sac without a good excuse. One of the first to get nicked was a vicar who lived about 25 miles away, his excuse when nicked, "I was using my favourite bottle, which happens to be 25 miles away from my home and based in Cheddar Road".

I once stopped at the 'Marvel Hotel Lodgings' is Soi 22. Staying in a low class Chinese tourist hotel during Chinese New Year wasn't one of my brighter ideas.

Swindon for a two month summer school run by the British Council. Horrible town surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside I have seen in England. It made some of the students cry with despair- it's effect on the teachers was paranoia about getting beaten up, heavy drinking and becoming slightly introverted.
Er, I'd also like to add Wroxham to that list full of Norfolk stereotypes- not a good thing at all!

Very true, it was also the student area, cheap accomodation. A few years after I left I read a newspaper article about a severed head found in front of the place I used to live. Fear not, I never severed anyone's head. It was back then a place of a sort of freedom. The street walkers, local mafia etc, but if you were part, of the community, no one bothered you. Three wise monkeys. The m stuff was top quality.

Oh my, so I take it out you decided to try a night out in "Great" Yarmouth? The first and only bar fight I have been in was with some knuckle dragging, gorilla impersonating bodybuilder in Great Yarmouth.
