For me, it would be Law Village.
The area was great, right on the edge of a scenic valley, but the village bored me to tears. I prefer city life and in the three years I lived in that place, I felt imprisoned. Everything was a twenty-minute drive away at least. An annoyance of a place.

Worse digs was in Chungking Mansions in TST, Hong Kong. I went to HK with an old pal who had been a few times before and on the plane on the way over he did warn me that our accomodation might be a tad unsavory, despite having 'Mansions' in the name. If you are still in Chunkers after being in HK for more than a month then you have serious problems and should be looking at going home. I know of 2 people who have been in dorms in Chunkers for over 23 years.

Chung King Mansions , what a misnomer. The second worst place for me was a room I had in You Ma Tai opposite the fruit market. The noise in the early hours drove me nuts . It wasn't the trolleys or the shouting that did it , it was the shaking of the abacuss to signal they were open for business. Shikashikashikashikashika , like that.

Talking of which, I once lived in Peel Street (just of Elgin Street) and the whole street reeked of over ripe Durian. Also lived in Kennedy Town at one stage, what a dive.

I rented a room in a big old Queenslander style house in Moorooka in Brisbane back in the late nineties, to be close to work. At first it was great, I had the place to myself, then the idiot landlord rented the other rooms out to all these unemployed drunken derros who used to carry on every night drinking and fighting. I told the landlord the idiots were keeping me up nearly every night but he was only interested in collecting the rent money. Did nothing about it. He came round unexpectedly one night and found me with my hands around one of the drunks' throat and evicted me from the house !

Basically, Chungking mansions comprises of 5 blocks, 17 floors high (IIRC) and the upper 11 floors are full of single room bed-sits (squats) which are just big enough to fit a bed and backpacker dorms. Most rooms have no windows, so no natural light/air, it can take up to half an hour to get to a room due to the queues for the lifts and power cuts are a daily occurrence.
You are regularly woken up in the early hours by Immigration/police raids, as the place is packed with undesirables.
The lower 6 floors are full of dodgy businesses, mainly run by Bangladeshis and Nigerians.
On the whole, Chunkers is a filthy and very dangerous place to live, I had knives pulled on me on 3 occasions for arguing with the Pakistan mafia.
If you can envisage the worst slums that you can think of but without any laws (think Mad Max), then you are half way to Chunkers.
