^^ Mad Tony. Hmmm.....snigger. It's a different one, but man he was funny. We had all sorts of interesting characters roaming around the grounds - staff included.

^^ Mad Tony. Hmmm.....snigger. As Mr. Toad has kindly pointed out, this is a different 'Mad Tony'. Mr. Toad's 'Mad Tony' probably wanders around in his pyjamas, whereas your 'Mad Tony' does I do not even own any pyjamas. This mistaken identity thing has to stop now, the last time it got me involved in a paternity dispute/case.

This bar had a metal mesh grill separating the serving area from the bar itself there being a small hole/hatch in the mesh through which drinks were served and money passed hands. No glasses or bottles, only beer in aluminium cans was sold. No ashtrays, no barstools, tables were solid concrete affixed to the floor. On pension days the large police force were put on full alert.
Good Gawd Toknarok, you are supposed to be talking of bad places, you have just described my idea of a perfect bar. That's it, I'm currently looking for flights and trying to find the place on Google maps. Mr Tiger, check this out, I shouldnt laugh really, but I have been in shebeens such as these, Cant remember the name of the follow up to this film, anyone remember? You see, that really is my type of bar. Every bar should have a party atmosphere and the occasional ruck. There's something great about twotting a nuisance in your local and then turning round to take another sip of your drink before he's even hit the deck. I've never been a bully but an occasional bar brawl put the cretins in their place. While I agree that everyone should be able to enjoy a drink in their local without fear of getting twotted, sometimes you get an arse in the bar who either upsets everyone in the bar or thinks that he is Bruce Mohammad Ali Lee, these idiots need taking down a peg and I'm usually happy to oblige. Follow up film was 'What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?'.

Danebury Avenue in leafy Roehampton is another place I don't care to live in again. On one side of the road you had million pound others- on the other side the housing estate that I got to call home for 2 years. Impossible to get a take away delivery- too many drivers had been stabbed. All the local shops had a stout plastic barrier separating the customer from the cashier. Was mugged four times in the first year 555

In my defence I did not know who you were back then and a man has to do something to pay for his Jamesons.

^^ Mad Tony. Hmmm.....snigger. It's a different one, but man he was funny. We had all sorts of interesting characters roaming around the grounds - staff included. The first job I ever had was in a mental asylum. When I was about 16, still at school I managed to get a job during school holidays working in the bakery of a hospital near where I lived in Barnet, in those days Hertfordshire now part of Greater London. It was called Friern Hospital and it was huge. Thousands of patients and staff. Its original name was Colney Hatch and was constructed in the 1850's. Dickens mentioned it in his books. Even in my day kids would insult each other by saying 'You're mad, you should be in the Hatch'. The corridors were over half a mile long, there were 13 of them. We were allowed to go anywhere except corridor 13, that's where the violent inmates and padded cells were kept. The experience certainly opened my eyes. Several of the patients worked in the bakery. There was a Spanish bloke called Jose who was mute. Never spoke a single word in the years I worked there. Then there was a German we called Fritz who used to stand outside whatever the weather shouting at the top of his voice. I often wondered what he was yelling about. Another elderly man whose name I forget was a really nice kind gentleman except he was a schizophrenic and would have the occasional mood change when he could get really nasty. Fortunately the bloke in charge of the bakery knew him well and could spot the changes coming and he would be taken away by the men in white coats (literally) for a few days. Yes certainly an experience for a nieve young man. One thing it did teach me was to have empathy for people with mental problems which remains with me to this day. Mental illness is just that, another illness and shouldn't be mocked or feared.

Maybe skip some steps or condense to the essential? "will work for Jameson"
