To get Jamesons one needs money and so far I have: Asked for money Begged For money Cried for money Danced for money One day I will work for money but I'm doing it all in alphabetical order and I have only reached 'D' at the moment. Maybe skip some steps or condense to the essential? "will work for Jameson" Work is way to far down the alphabet. How about skipping 'E' and going straight onto 'F'? Will fight any man in this bar for a glass of Jamesons.

'E' is for Educate.
Hopefully you haven't got that desperate yet.

Worse digs was in Chungking Mansions in TST, Hong Kong. I went to HK with an old pal who had been a few times before and on the plane on the way over he did warn me that our accomodation might be a tad unsavory, despite having 'Mansions' in the name. If you are still in Chunkers after being in HK for more than a month then you have serious problems and should be looking at going home. I know of 2 people who have been in dorms in Chunkers for over 23 years. Got to agree Tony did a few weeks in there early 90s and it was a toilet then, but so well positioned to everything, Was back in a HK the year before last for business and at the Holiday Inn in Kowloon and went and stuck my nose in CK hasnt changed too much by the looks of it Ned Kellys was a timewarp....hadnt changed one bit since the last time i was there, although i seemed to remember it being bigger for some reason

My first job in Hong Kong was right next door to Ned's, at the Red Lion, I was the 'Head Chucker-out (a doorman). That was back when Joyce was still the owner, during the golden era. She sold out to an ex hooker named Cindy who may have know how to work in a bar but certainly didn't know how to run one. Sadly the great times would never return and the Red Lion only saw 2 or 3 customers a day, the days of a packed Red Lion were gone.

I used to drink more down by the Star ferry, at Beefies, there were 3 bars next to each other...Beefies, The white stag (i think it was called) and the name of the 3rd one escapes me Beefies used to be heaving on a Sunday great fun

Beefies closed down the month before I got to Hong Kong, all of the old hands of TST used to tell tales of how great the place was. Spent many a day (and pay packet) in the White Stag (when it was on Canton Road), in fact I have a small tattoo on my arm which says White Stag H.K. Michele the owner of the Stag is still around, I met up with her 3 years back for the funeral of a close mutual friend. She now and owns 3 bars, the best being just down the road from where the Old China Hand in Wanchai once stood. Johnny is still her main bar manager.
Do you remember the Blacksmith's Arms (Blackies) at the back of Chung King, I think that it was in Minden Road, also the 'Watering Hole' was in the same area.

I remember the name Blackies, but dont recall ever drinking in there, i might of....my time in HK was rather a blurry haze for most of the time , i was working between an office in HK and being on site at Daya Bay, the Nuclear on the Chinese side, at that time about a 2 hour taxi ride from Shenzen....our time in HK was more R&R than anything else, even cargo inspections for gear coming in to HK from France before they were put on the barges and sent up the coast was just an excuse to go to HK and go on the lash
