I agree with your assessment. I'm not interested in retiring to Thailand, never have been. I don't know why I should restrict myself to one country in retirement. I can think of hundreds of reasons to retire here. Health care is still affordable (I'm a disabled vet so government pays) and much better than at a VA hospital in the States. I really have always liked 18 to 26 year old women and here they are plentiful and affordable. Going out for a night on the town is cheap and fun. My dog likes it here (rescued Thai soi dog and my best friend). It costs me a pittance and 20 minutes to get to the airport and fly to Peneng or Singapore for Chinese and Indian food. I've got 4k TV and am high tech for all my appliances. My watch is hooked to my handset which is hooked to my phone and TV and the whole estate is on live IP cam and guarded by my private army. Plenty of other places where all you mentioned are available.

For the same price? Where? Start with Mexico. Not even close. I just got back from the mall where I had a threesome after my doctors apt the whole day cost me 2500 baht and included sauteed scallops and a smoked salmon salad for lunch. I'd go to Mexico because health care is so close or San Antonio which is just like Mexico but higher crime rate and less food poisoning. The crime is the big deterrent there. VA covers most health things here in Thailand but the States they would pay for everything including viagra but it's not worth it for the shitty service and attitude. The only place I can think of is Penang.

I love it. See there's a difference.

You'Lloyd get three women here for $25, cheaper if you can negotiate - 4 star hospital - what did you have done? and salmon/scallops here are cheap. Last salmon meal I had was $6

Last salmon meal I had was $6 I go every three months for a check up and treat myself to a nice lunch at an upscale restaurant and a trip to the local brothel to unwind after the conversation with the doctor. I could live in Mexico no problem but I don't because I'm afraid of the crime and low standards of living for the same thing as Thailand. I lived in Texas for 10 years close to the border so I'm fairly familiar with the area.

The border towns tend to be crime ridden - where I was safe - excepting the incident at 5.00 a.m. last Saturday morning. I blame myself for that, could happen anywhere if you walk at that time drunk and holding a $1000 camera. Mex on Mex crime is a problem - the Americans that live here ( hundreds of thousands if not millions ) don't share your safety concerns. Many believe it to be safer than their home cities of Detroit and LA.

Also, I don't agree with the lower standard of living. I would say somewhere like Guadalajara is higher standard than Chiang Mai in the centro, Chapultepec, and Colonias Americas areas ( among others ).
There's a giant American community in Chapala, Ajijic areas which live a very good, upper middle class life.
San Miguel has over 10,000 American expats, though I prefer Guanajuato more.
And CMK, you don't need pay for play here - the women are willing. I say women cos I prefer the thirties age group. Under 26 - serious eye candy but not for me.
