Do you have a balcony? If so, you can't beat a bbq. Can grill, roast, steam-whatever you want. Cooking outside will also keep the heat outside

Worth remembering microwaves are not expensive here and they are heavy and risk getting pinged for duty now. (slight but possible) You could steal a George Foreman grill from MJP as long as you change the first name. They are not very obtainable here.

Induction is perfect and easy to clean...but not made for roasting or grilling...forget fugging microwaves...a small convection oven can do the deal...but due it is for Thailand and we are man there are two options: BBQ or eating outside...

No I did not mean that...but if you cannot cook it is possible to get help. Plenty of stuff is available to cook with and the prices for much of it reasonable. A microwave is useful...and can be put where a convection oven cannot. Food is available. Local beef may be tough but stewing or good cooking can make it quite good. I have allready mentioned using a pressure cooker to cook a lump of beef. Brown the outside in a frypan after if you must. 1.5kg beef at about 500baht and you have great sandwiches for a week as well as a couple of meat and veggie meals. Centrals prices are fairly dear. Lazada is often cheaper and Makro has some rather useful cooking tools very cheap.

Lazada is often cheaper and Makro has some rather useful cooking tools very cheap. Local beef is not my favourite but it can be get made tender with the help of sodium bicarbonate or pineapple or papaya...also long time of stewing help and as ME has already noted to brown the outside is a must.take your time not too high temperatures add onion, carrot, celery and garlic roast everything until dark brown add tomato paste and roast for another 6/7 min deglaze with Mont Clair for two three times put a lid on one let it slowly cook for 4-5 hours...Goulash Thai style actually edible...

Please don't think I won't be buying the best meat available....I don't cook often but when I do it will be best ingredients....I can eat any old crap outside and not know it and that's fine but if I go to the trouble....as a lazy fecker....it has to be worth the trouble.
Thanks cc for agreeing with me on the microwave....an implement I hae never used as they are not for cooking....they are for destroying things.
Also have to take into account the size of the convection cookers....but it would be nice to have an oven to do a lasagne in or whatever....<sigh>....not sure what to do!

Someone here has already posted the answer...cant remember who it was.
It's an oven with strip lights across the top and bottom, a timer and temp regulator.
They are actually better than gas ovens for kebabs etc... smaller than a microwave and cost about 1000 bath.
The downside is they aren't very big.

Forgot the micro grill microwave it won't do want you want IMO - I've got one and I use it for three things - baked potato, reheating tea, storage for all the plastic containers I can't seem to toss.
The same size up to 30% larger toaster oven for lack of a better word is the way to go - there are some posh ones around town, basic ones from 5000 up to 15k (if I could figure out how to downsize the pics so I could post it could be this weeks hobby)
Smokie, Le Crueset is okay but if the stuff chips which it will it's a pain and ugly, I'd go with the basic old fashioned cast iron ones - start seasoning it there so the smoke isn't overwhelming - true value hardware here has a few sizes in stock at their location on Rama IV in case weight is an issue, they are most likely double the price you would pay there.
I'd put some thought into picking up decent cooking pans and dishes while there for roasting, baking and casseroles/lasagna. I have an Ancient enamel pan perfect for roasties you'll never find here from the old country, Pyrex is triple the price here and the sizes are micro small.
I doubt you'll be able to cook outdoors on the terrace, these new condos have so many rules (I do it late at night heheh) I wish they had public bbq's on the roof top do away with those silly gyms with exercise equipment and give me my weber.
edit - two more things I do in the micro I reheat the dogs food and do corn on the cob in cling film once a quarter in the micro.

Smokie I'll post this here, maybe some other folks have some ideas as well. Things to bring for your new home. Decent bottle of champers duty free for your first night in your new home Herbs for cooking - sage, rosemary, oregano etc, maldon sea salt is 329 baht here Bed linen and lots of it, price and quality there is far superior Cooking pots and pans as mentioned ^^ Silicon cooking pans A spray thingy for vegetable oil to spritz the cooking pan Toast rack if your into that Good quality knives with a hone Potato masher (they have them here but pound land quality) Poultry scissors Decent radio (unless you spend 12k they are cheap crap here) Do you have a screen door ? A lot of upper floor condos don't have screen doors, imagine - screen mesh kits from there. * Decent tea pot French press for coffee (IKEA and others have them from 499 baht to 2000 baht) and all look cheap Butter dish and butter knife Fish knives and forks - I'm stubborn I like eating fish with them Linen table cloth and linen serviettes (something without flowers or chickens ) If the budget isn't blown a roomba vacum cleaner and anything Bose * the screen door is a major irritant for me as they say mozzies don't go above the 8th floor - bollox, the agent will say you can order a screen from the juristic office and trust me it takes months, the other problem is I've seen condo sliding doors that don't have the slot/track on the bottom to even accommodate a screen door.
