Are you seriously asking for the Pope to be holier than thou?

Nobody ever likes my ideas. Eff it. I am off to the Five Star bar for morning coffee. May I suggest a little something to 'fortify' the coffee? I know from experience friends a bit of cognac in your coffee does wonders to its flavour I could have sworn I saw a bottle of Calvados in Foodland the other day for not a lot of money. Been back since but not to be seen. As I am currently "off it", not really much point, but it is a good thought. Not had Calvados for decades. No doubt the usual suspects will be jumping up and down saying it is available everywhere for peanuts.

I was more 'into' some exotic local stuff like Beerenburg en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BeerenburgThere were also two liquor stores in my village. The owner of one of them would import some fine armagnac by the barrel. Much better than the odd cognac and you would not dream of putting it in your coffee but sip it. Normal cognac would be good for in your coffee just like Johnny Walker black in your coca cola.

^^| Are you seriously asking for the Pope to be holier than thou? I thought he walks on water, isnt this the same guy who claims papal infallability? What is it they say about glass houses? Anyway back on topic, why hasnt the nazi been rounded up yet? The Zionists seem to be bringing everyone, cooks and guards and clerks to account, why does the nazi get a free pass?

^^| Are you seriously asking for the Pope to be holier than thou? Are you seriously trying to say he is only a man like we mere mortals? Since I already have my queue number for the stake I guess I won't make things worse by saying YES BTW the Papal infallibility was 'proclaimed' in the late 19th century if I remember correctly. Also it would only apply under clearly defined circumstances like only related to matters of faith. Of course, to some that already went too far. PS did a quick search. Memory (still) serves me WARNING: CATHOLIC WEBSITE AHEAD "The dogma of infallibility was formally proclaimed at the First Vatican Council in 1870. There are several requirements for a dogmatic, papal infallible pronouncement: (1) The pronouncement must be made by the lawful successor to Peter. (2) The subject matter must be in the area of faith and morals. (3) The pope must be speaking ex cathedra, that is from the very seat and office of Peter. In this way he must be specifically intending to proclaim a doctrine, binding the entire Church to its assent. If one or more of these elements is missing, there is no infallible pronouncement. Most "examples" of papal "errors" emerge when critics ignore the necessity of these three points. (Madrid, pp. 135-136, Pope Fiction)" www.catholicfaithandreason.org/papal-infallibility.html

^^^ Yet, even if speaking ex cathedra, he still claims his authority and moral framework from a non-existent invisible sky wizard, so he's inherently wrong even before he opens his mouth.

Opinions, opinions. BTW I don't think this Pope ever 'claimed' and it's more like the law of land. As for inherently, up to a point it's a bit like it being a crime to insult a monarch. Anyway, I learned while in the army that you can be punished for what you say, but not for what you think. Extrapolating that would also apply to the Pope when he keep his mouth shut.

Front page of the Bangkok Post today, col.3, says this person is known as Il Papa "affectionately across the world to millions" or somesuch brown nosing.
Perhaps they are on here plagiarising, pity they don't get irony.

via Associated Press ""Pope urges Thai Catholics to practice faith despite majority Buddhist country Pope Francis ministered to Thailand’s tiny Catholic community Friday, urging Thais young and old to practice their faith with joy and with “a Thai face and flesh” in an overwhelmingly Buddhist country. Thousands of Thais welcomed Francis as he traveled to St. Peter’s Parish, a Catholic community outside Bangkok, to pray at the sanctuary of Thailand’s first martyred priest. There, he told a few hundred priests and nuns that he read “with some pain” that for many Thais, Christianity is “a religion for foreigners.” “This should spur us to find ways to talk about the faith in dialect, like a mother who sings lullabies to her child,” he said. “With that same intimacy, let us give faith a Thai face and flesh, which involves much more than making translations.” Children dressed as monks and nuns, as well as real clergy and ordinary Catholics, cheered him as he passed through the crowd outside the church in his popemobile and later on foot. “Viva il papa,” or “Long live the pope,” they shouted in Italian." nypost.com/2019/11/22/pope-urges-thai-catholics-to-practice-faith-despite-majority-buddhist-country/"

Interesting how some here have a hard-on for Vatican City apart from the tendency to go into hilarious E.U. bashing. It's like complaining that in the U.K. you can still find traces of Empire. The topic is the papal visit to Thailand. The position of the Pope is one which can be explained by studying history. The idiocy here to try to position VC as a country of similar importance as the Netherlands or Britain seems weird. No, no idiocy whatsoever. The thread started about the papa, and continues about him. He comes here with the panoply and razzamatazz of a head of state, his state is a joke and is being shown up as such. I jokingly referred to going off topic, but have not seen many threads carry on for five pages and stay so close to the OP.

The thread is examining his authority, and I would say he comes out lacking.
