Next - Make it mandatory for people on a "retirement," visa.

Whatever happened to the Government plan “Thailand Travel Shield” to offer cheap insurance to all tourists? One year on from launch and it's about as exciting as tumbleweeds.

Clearly in the black and white its written no motorbikes. Never seen the question do you have a bike license? Perhaps if you rang and asked they might if you paid a huge premium

Similar thing in the UK hippity, basic travel insurance doesn't cover bikes.
I guess that also means if you are injured on a motorbike taxi you wont be insured also, these insurance companies do anything to try and not pay.

Basic travel insurwnce may not, but a quick google will reveal multiple companies which will insure, provided you have a license applicable for the bike you intend riding, getting injured on a motobike taxi will not be covered as your using a services which is neither "legimate" or insured to carry passengers, one suspects you might find the same getting injured in BKK taxi as suspect you will find most are not insured to carry passengers either.

Next - Make it mandatory for people on a "retirement," visa. Try getting travel or health insurance when you are over sixty. When you work in Thailand, legitimately, a good company provides health insurance. As there are few good companies I always had private health insurance, still do. The big but, is that it is almost worthless. The get out clauses are written in coded insurance language. If the insurance company can claim off a third party, they will cover you. I trust the philanthropic Blether is about to put his money where his mouth is and set up a retirees insurance company. I would not advise it as being a good investment, insurance companies are not into loss making. My annual cover now costs an arm and a leg, not that it covers either! As good old Buddha noted, you grow old, suffer and die. Eternal life is a christian fallacy. Makes money though. You need to take out private health insurance before you are sixty. The premium then increases annually. Most people in the world are not covered by any insurance. Such is life and death. Regards Pikey.

I don't see how old folks would get insurance. I'm covered for a lot of things by the military but not all. It would be a shame to kick me out as I spend about a million baht a year here.
Seems the Thai government could cover most things (by some kind of insurance charge) to patch up old folks enough to send them home extensive treatment for not too much.

Did you have your seatbelt on? No, there wasn't one. Sorry, not covered.

Plenty of government hospitals are being left with large bills due to retirees not paying for their care. What's the solution?
