Can also be a Buddhist thing as well <Bunny boiler>, my Mrs will not eat beef either I know of quite a few Thais who won't eat beef (my wife included). When I have asked why I always get the same answer "I don't like the smell of beef". Saying that, I also know a lot of Thais who love a nice steak, which is why Chokchai and Sizzlers is popular here. Not really a budhist thing. More a female chinese chee sort of thing. It became fashionable for people here particularly female to follow a chinese female monk. (Probably in revolt with the male dominated clergy here). She belonged to a sect which does not eat large animals (beef) and so they do not. A fairly recent thing here.

So would anyone here eat human......if it wasn't illegal? Eating human is not illegal (at least not in the UK) killing someone to eat them is murder though. Say, if I had a liver transplant, I could offer you the old one to fry up, no crime has been committed. Not sure about that. I think I recall a shipwceck...charges of defiling a corpse of something. this may help you decide next time you want to eat somebody.

Miss trix, do they still have the live badgers in the cages outside the meat shops in GuangDong? Haven't seen badgers but Shar Peis aplenty in markets bordering Canton. Dog Hot pot is popular in the mainland, and yes I have tried it. It didn't put hair on my chest but many say it empowers you and gives you strength. Not something you would go out of your way to order besides the expense it's man's best friend 555. Cats are something I'd never eat. Filthy, festy things cats.

Interesting article.
In the 20th century instances of survival cannibalism are known to have occurred in China up through the 1960s and even in North Korea more recently.
Because the victims often consent to the act it can be difficult to find a charge, which was what happened with the famous Miewes case in Germany. His victim responded to an internet ad: “looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered and then consumed." He's now serving a life sentence.
That case I recall well. Bizzare meets weird and ends up in prison.

I wouldn't eat parts of a human ( not even if I was shagging Lecter) but this is popular here and of course where it originated...Japan. 'Nyotaimori' is the Japanese tradition of eating sushi off a perfectly still, naked woman's body. Just the sort of thing to enrage a diehard feminist which I am not. If that pic is offensive to anybody here I will remove it. Beats eating off a man any day. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2010/feb/12/nyotaimori-eating-sushi-naked-woman

This guy has made it a money spinner by doing travel shows on bizzare food he consumed in different locations around the world. Not a bad watch but some not for the squeamish. www.travelchannel.com/shows/bizarre-foods

Many Buddhists prefer not to eat red meat and of course some prefer not to eat meat at all, but like anything, it's open to interpretation. Also, Thai beef is fairly poor. Especially when you compare it with the grain fed beef of Tasmania. My Mrs wouldnt believe ostrich is a big chicken with a bad temper the first time she ate it, thought it was beef and refused to touch it initially and on our most recent visit to an ostrich farm she was bitten (pecked) by one the f ckers when she tried yo feed it some corn

I told her, stop running, you can't outrun it. . Sheila's. No but Gayllips has put in an appearance in this thread: bigmango.boards.net/thread/917/tune
